Implementation of a Regional Fisheries Strategy for the ESA-IO region – IRFS (SMARTFISH)

The overall objective of the programme (Implementation of a Regional Fisheries Strategy for the ESA-IO region –IRFS) of which this contract will be a part is to contribute to an increased level of social, economic and environmental development and deeper regional integration in the ESA-IO region through the sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources. The TAT will provide all necessary assistance as required by the IOC Secretariat in order to achieve the specific objectives of the Programme. This will enable: 1) deepening of regional integration of the ESA-IO region in fisheries management and development; 2) the reinforcement of the capacity of the ESA-IO region and the IOC; 3) rapid access to expertise in the various fields of fisheries management and development; 4) the setting up and operationalisation of a Fisheries Unit within the Economic and Trade Unit of the IOC Secretariat; 5) an improved coordination with Member States, Regional Organisations and other related programmes in fisheries issues in order to ensure complementarity, coherence in intervention in the area, and; 6) optimal use of IRFS Programme resources.
