Technical assistance to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan with respect to its Global Climate Change commitments
The overall project objective is to assist beneficiary countries in building institutional and technical capacity for participation in the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol. The project consists of a country specific component which addresses specific needs and utilises resources and approaches specific for each country, and a regional component which addresses common problems and provides a platform for exchange of information, sharing of experiences and lessons learned. Specific common objectives are: the development of a CDM/JI institutional infrastructure; the development of the legal framework and institutional capacity; to enhance capacity to estimate future emission trends; enhance awareness among key policymakers, the business community and the general public on climate change and the Kyoto Protocol issues and on opportunities with respect to CDM/JI and GHG mitigation. The beneficiary countries also identified their specific national objectives that are either related to the overall project objectives mentioned above (and further clarify them) or are additional to them.
