Web News – EU Sanctions – Law, practice and guidance – UN authorises N. Korea sanctions exemptions for food Aid

The UNSC Committee overseeing Resolution 1718 (imposing sanctions on North Korea) has authorised an Italian company, Agrotec SPA, which was contracted by the European Commission, to export agricultural machinery and equipment to advance N. Korea’s food security. Following a severe drought in N. Korea, a German NGO Deutsche Welthungerhilfe has also been approved to deliver items and equipment required for “activities concerning the production and storage of seeds” to improve food supplies and nutrition. Agricultural equipment is usually banned from exportation to the DPRK under UN Resolution 2397. The exemptions are valid until 25 January 2020.
